There are three ways to initially apply for Social Security Disability benefits. An individual can apply online, over the telephone, or in-person.

  • Online: Apply on the SSA's website ssa.gov.
  • Telephone: Apply over the phone by calling the SSA's customer service line at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778)
  • In-person: Apply in-person at the closest Social Security field office.
