Social Security Region 5: Chicago

Region 5 of the Social Security Administration includes the following: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The region also includes 221 Field offices, 6 Offices of Disability Determination Services, 6 Tele-service centers, and the Twin Cities Social Security Card center. Within Region 5, there are a little over 1,760,000 individuals who receive SSDI and approximately 1,200,000 individuals receive SSI. Overall, around 7.2% of the population in the region is considered disabled by the SSA’s standards and the SSA gave out on average about 2.54 billion dollars in benefits per month in 2013.
