Social Security Region 2: New York

Region 2 of the Social Security Administration includes the following: New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The region also includes 126 Field offices, 15 Offices of Disability Adjudication & Review, and 6 Offices of Disability Determination Services. Within Region 2, there are a little over 1,050,000 individuals who receive SSDI and approximately 880,000 individuals receive SSI. Overall, around 7% of the population in the region is considered disabled by the SSA’s standards and the SSA gave out on average about 1.65 billion dollars in benefits per month in 2013.
